Summary:

The project is an addition to the existing Kent State University Cunningham Hall. The 42,000 square foot addition to the parent building (built in the 1960's) provides 22 new state of the art research laboratories, classrooms, and office and service space related primarily to Aquatic Ecology and Reproductive Physiology disciplines. The university requested the addition to be distinct in design while relating to the existing building, and be fully integrated with the parent building's utilities and communications. The new research facility uses materials which respect the existing building and the adjacent campus community. The addition is located to create a new courtyard off of the main circulation spine which connects the science buildings in this area.
