The new power plant provides flexible, modern and expandable steam generating capability and improved steam distribution. The Facilty also provides auxiliary electrical generating capability using excess steam production, reducing waste and the need for purchased electricity. The size and location of the lot forces the plant close to a major roadway and campus entrance, so much care had to be given to the visual appearance of the plant. The curtainwall provides views of the impressive equipment and steady activity inside, and acts like a lantern at night. The long gable strategically increases interior volume, screens rooftop equipment, and relates to nearby structures.
